Garrett concentrates for a moment until hers emerge as well. They're strange to look at- bestial, like the more mutated sinners in Hell who she always prayed never to turn into. Very strange. "Well, the fact that it's still happening after we're gone makes me think it won't be going away. But who knows, with this multiverse shit. Now turn over."

She scoots away from Dodger and nudges him to lay on his stomach, forcing her claws to go back in again. Once the man is laid out, she can get a better look at his back- and it's pretty bad. Her hand rests between two claw wounds so gently that it feels like an apology. "Maker's tits, I did a number on you," she murmurs, washing his back with healing light.

While she's there, she draws on some of the blood spilled around them, trying to... to lessen the mess of whip scars on his back. They always bother her to look at even in the middle of sex, and something deep in her core feels a little soothed to see them shrink and recede, leaving healthy, smooth skin behind.

He laughs, "I haven't heard that in a while."

What a strange duality, to be grinning up at his girlfriend / boyfriend while she's cleaning up the jagged clawmarks she left on his back. Although really, the healing magic just feels good. This is probably what a dog feels like when it's being petted.

"It felt good in the moment. Don't beat yourself up."

Maybe a little more intimate than petting a dog, but it does go nicely with aftercare. It's really impossible to describe the unique way that healing magic feels like something deeper than a touch, something that brings her being together with the person she's healing for the brief moments that the magic flows between them. It puts a little breathiness in her laugh (although that might be the bruised windpipe).

"After all the shit you do to me, I'm not exactly going to lose sleep over it."

Garrett takes a little more time before she's finally satisfied with how much the scars have gone down. Then she trails a finger over skin that probably hasn't had full nerve function in a long time, expression a little dreamy.

"You look good."

She doesn't usually like focusing on Dodger's back.

The further her healing goes, the more Dodger realizes how much he needs it. Past the wounds and scar tissue, there's leftover damage to his body that just never healed right. He's walked off so many injuries that he can barely feel his back, and the realization hits him in a way he can't quite process.

He looks good. That's something he can't quite process either, he isn't sure what emotion he's feeling right now. All he's sure of is that his chest feels tight, his throat feels a little... wrong. There's a soft look in his eyes, and his voice is a little faint when he answers.

"I've looked better."

She smiles and cards a hand gently through his hair. Garrett might not know what he's feeling, but she can recognize the frailty in his eyes well enough to know when to soothe and comfort.

"So have I," she answers. "But your back looks better than it has in a long time. Can you feel it? A few more sessions like this and you can get tattoos back here again."

A smile creeps onto his face, soothed by the petting and her gentle tone. Slowly he nods.

"Maybe I'll get something that reminds me of you." He offers quietly. "I keep my history on my skin. Whatever form that takes."

There's a pause before he shifts to meet her eyes properly.

"Leave something crossing over that triangle on my back. Okay?"

He's referring to an upside-down triangle between his shoulder blades, full of intricate flowers. It had a particularly stubborn whip-mark slashed across it, but it's almost completely healed now.

She immediately frowns, knowing she fucked up. In her fervor to give Dodger back what he's lost, she focused particularly on healing the tattoos- but now it comes to her. Didn't the cult have a thing with flowers? Roses? Fuck.

"About that," Garrett says, holding up one hand and flexing out her claws. "I may have been trying to give you your tattoos back and healed it on purpose. What do you say to replacing Lucifer's whip marks with boyfriend claw marks?"

Dodger sets his jaw a little, while he thinks it over. Finally, he nods.

"I'd rather have you fuck me up than anyone else."

He rolls back onto his stomach, tipping his neck to give Garrett perfect access to the tattoo.

Garrett straddles Dodger's thighs and flexes her claws, examining them and thinking about her plan of attack.

"So, is this from... a few years ago?" she asks, wording it carefully.

He hesitates a bit, and nods.

"Not that long ago, technically. It was my last tatt before I got to Hell - a couple months before, I think."

He sets his jaw slightly, unsure of exactly how much he wants to say.

"I got this triangle and flowers. Jason got a triangle with tentacles. Seemed like a good idea at the time."

Garrett gives him a bit of a Look. "You got a tattoo for a job and a relationship? I'm not even from Earth and even I know that's a bad idea."

"I have dumber tattoos."

He flexes one of his hands, to show it off. Not just the all-seeing eyes tattooed on the back, but the scars left from skin stripped from his fingers.

"I used you have 'die' on this hand, on the fingers. I got it when I was a teenager, just... not sure if I had to will to live. Squalo cut it off as some sort of... therapy. I guess it helped."

She tilts her head looking at it, almost forgetting about the task at hand. "Can you get this one removed? I don't know if I like seeing a reminder of your ex every time I fuck you."

A beat passes. The hypocrisy occurs to her.

"I'll even get something pierced in return, just for you."

Dodger hesitates, and shakes his head.

"I keep my history on my skin. There's a lot of things I don't like about it, but they stay. They're part of me."

He sits up, and turns to face her properly.

"I know you don't get it. It's just... important to me. To keep a record I can trust."

She really, really doesn't get it, and it shows. "But doesn't that mean you can never truly move past it? It's just right there on the surface, staring at you whether you like it or not."

That wording is odd, though. A record he can trust?

"Do you not trust your memory? Is it the dimension thing?"

"Both. Yeah." He leans against the headboard, scratching his head awkwardly. "I've always just wanted... reminders. Proof that what happened.. happened. That it was real."

A pause.

"I've done a lot of shit that's fucked my memory up. People have done things to fuck my memory up. And every time I shift realities, the tattoos change. They tell different stories. They're just... how I know I'm me."

Garrett listens, taking in every detail for later questioning or investigation, taking in the emotion hidden behind his words. The stories they don't tell. It all makes sense to her, in a way, now that he's explained it.

"Well then." She holds up her claws, sharp and wicked. "A set of claw marks through it is how you'll know you're this you. That tattoo belongs to a man who never went to Hell. The scars ripping it apart will make you mine."

It appeals to her more than she expected- and for the first time, she's starting to understand Dodger's obsession with leaving his mark on his lovers' skin.

Dodger wavers before meeting her gaze, but there's a hunger in his eyes. The way she talks speaks to him deeply, reels him in effortless. He leans closer, and seeks out a kiss.

"Then go ahead and mark me. Make me yours."

Garrett puts her clawed hand to his cheek, gently gripping his jaw for the kiss. It's light and slow, but the claws give it a possessive edge. Garrett likes the idea of having something that's hers.

She releases him slowly. "Lie down again. Don't move until I say."

When Dodger is on his stomach, she straddles his hips again and leans over, tracing a path with her claws. Garrett practices a few times, experimenting with how wide to spread her fingers and how long the slashes should be, making light red lines on Dodger's skin to visualize. Once she has something that looks just right, she flexes hard and sinks the claws in deep, dragging them through his skin like an animal. It's slower than a real claw attack would move, but she's trying to make it look perfect.

After a couple seconds, it's done. She brings her claws around to Dodger's lips, dripping blood.

"Clean them off."

He obeys easily, letting her maneuver him onto his stomach. The feeling of her claws practicing over his back is deeply soothing, and he melts into the mattress under her strokes.

And then the claws finally sink in, and he tenses before sinking his own claws into the mattress. The sound that escapes him is more pleasure than pain, almost a moan followed by a gasp when her claws retreat. And when she brings her fingers to his lips, he easily takes them to suck them clean.

"Yes, ma'am."

Garrett is surprised at how much she's enjoying this. Cutting up her partner isn't something she's done a lot in the past, and not something she's liked this much. It occurs to her how much Dodger's sadomasochism has changed her- or maybe it was just Hell.

Whatever. It doesn't matter. All that matters is Dodger's mouth on her fingers, tongue laving blood off her claws, and the red spreading wine-dark over his pale skin. Her other hand touches him lightly to let the tiniest bit of healing magic out- just enough to stem the bleeding. Not enough to close the wound.

Once Dodger is finished licking her claws clean, she pulls her hand back and instructs him to, "Hold still." Then she starts to pull the claw-wounds apart gently, mimicking the way Dodger pulled at the sigil knife-wounds on his back so very long ago in Hell. She lets a little healing weave in as she pulls them apart, coaxing scar tissue to fill in, healing it in little fits and starts that leave the body confused and scarring. It's not the most elegant thing in the world, but then again, it's not meant to be.

She goes so slowly, irritating and scratching at the wounds when they look like they might heal too nicely, that it takes a good 15 minutes like that. At the end, though, the scars are a nicely vivid color, looking almost like art. Garrett snaps a picture on her phone and hands it to Dodger, so he can see the tattoo slashed through with claw marks that look like they came from an animal.

"There. All finished. What do you think?"

Dodger spends the time gasping and sighing, equally soothed by the pain as he is by the healing. Fuck, if he wasn't so exhausted he would be begging to fuck her again by the end. Instead he lays there, panting softly and fully satisfied.

He rolls over just enough to look at the photo, and it takes him a second to decide. It looks beautiful, but there's still some part of him afraid of letting Jason ago. Anxious over that last step.

"Yeah. I like it." He shifts again, enough to look at her. "It's good work."

The delay doesn't bother her. Body modifications take time to be okay with, especially when imposed by another. Maker knows it took her at least a week to be alright with the handprint Dodger forced on her, and sometimes she still feels a bit weird when her fingers stray over the raised scarring in the shower.

When he finally compliments her work, though, Garrett smiles. "I tried to make it look badass. It might be my mark but it should still fit you."

Her hand smooths over the skin, feeling out bumpy scars, deceptively fresh, and skin around it that's so much softer than it was before.

"And look at how nice the area around it looks. The lower part of your back still has some whip scars, but I could probably heal those entirely with a few more magic sessions. You'll be able to redo your tattoos or get more if you want. And you don't have to worry about not knowing your history, because my claw marks are much nicer than anything Hell did."

"What, and you're not badass?" He laughs quietly.

The mention of the whip scars, though, gives him pause.

"I don't want to lose them completely." Now he sits up properly, partly to keep his back away from her at this point. "I spent weeks getting my back flayed open by demons. Erasing the scars is just... erasing all of that. It- I don't know, it feels like sweeping it under the rug."

She nods in understanding. "There are a few left, some particularly stubborn ones. Enough that you can see skin in between them, and your back isn't completely fucked up- but there are a few as proof of what happened."

Garrett reaches around him and finds one, tracing it. It's pretty considerable in size, and crosses over with several others in a pattern that's both morbid and visually interesting. She hadn't wanted to erase too much, but she does know - however the man might deny it - that Dodger is insecure about looking too grotesque and has deep bruises in his sense of vanity. This way, he could even take his shirt off in public without getting too many weird looks if he really wanted to.
