[He turns his phone off after that and goes to Dana and Coyote for help with getting a new bank account and a place to stay. Within ten minutes his money has all been moved, and before the day is out he goes to the only place in town he can find that sells leaded paint.]

[Despite his anger, Dodger doesn't leave it alone. Of course he doesn't. He trashes Garrett's apartment - he'd already done some of it while they were texting - but he sticks around after. He knows exactly what Garrett's next move will be, because it's always happened when they fight. And he'll be there to intercept.

He watches Garrett moving his things to a new place, one that Dodger has no control over. He follows to watch through the walls from the empty apartment across from Garrett's - his vision isn't great, but he can see the outline of the man coming inside and setting down paint cans. And he can wait for an opening to swap the paints out for an unleaded copy.]

[The place isn't great - certainly smaller than what Dodger can afford - but it's cheap, furnished, and allows dogs with no weight limit, so it's his only option. Garrett doesn't think to ask permission to paint, but does choose a safe white on the advice of the man at the store, who says landlords are less likely to notice it.

It doesn't take long for anxiety to get him. This feels so familiar and yet so much worse than anything else- he's alone, truly alone this time, single for the first time in years. He's started over with nothing before, he's lived in worse and humbler places before, but that was with family, at least- who are almost all dead now. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. Dead, like Dodger probably will be when he drinks and cuts himself to-

-No. He can't think like that. Garrett barely gets any paint on the wall before he sits on his new (old and shitty) couch and seeks to fill one of the few addictions he has left. Within five minutes of downloading the app, he has a profile with some nudes. Within fifteen minutes, he has a stranger in his DM's seeking a hook-up only a few blocks away. With that, he's gone.]

[He expected Garrett to get farther than that before giving up. It almost makes him wonder what exactly the man is doing, or thinking... but he can't tell from here. Getting closer would be a bad move, too tempting to blow his cover and try to win Garrett back. He needs to bide his time.

Instead he sneaks in once Garrett is gone, cautiously scritching Blue's ears when he appears. Doubtless the dogs know something is up, but he'll be quick about it. He switches the paints, and teleports out to see if he can still follow Garrett.]

[Garrett is gone for less than an hour. He shows up at this stranger's house with some condoms, they fuck, he thanks the stranger, pets the cat, and leaves. It's weirdly businesslike- a cheap, free, easy fuck that has him walking a little lighter, the tension gone from his body. There's even a liquor store on the way back, so he shows up with a fresh bottle of whiskey to resume his paint job. The man Garrett hooked up with was a smoker, and the smell clings to his hair too much for him to notice the tang of smoke and gasoline in the air when he returns to his apartment.]

[He's almost impressed by how quick that was. And of course he doesn't leave well enough alone. He can spy on Garrett from his vantage point, and he has his own stash of alcohol. They can both stew in their misery alone, together.

He downs half a bottle of whiskey and flexes his hand, digging his fingernails into his palm until blood beads around them.]
