Dodger had barely been able to resist Garrett long enough to make it to their hotel room - between the dress and the body, he thinks he's a champion of self control for managing that much. Not to mention the sexual power of undoing a belt and snapping it as his suit came off.

Once their clothes were back on he ended up messing with his hair for about 20 minutes in the bathroom, apparently unsatisfied with his appearance a lot more than usual. Part of it is that he's shaved, and he hates how he looks without his beard. But he has to look presentable, or some bullshit like that.

Now in the elevator to meet with Augustine, he's still fussing with his hair and his tie. He's already frayed the bandages that are hidden under his suit sleeves. There's a sense of anxiety to him that seems to ramp up every time he spends time around his boss - no matter how much hatred he's started building toward the man, his instincts always tell him that he needs to impress him.

Garrett was so keyed up from the stress of being seen like this in public and the turn-on of it all that by the time they got into the hotel room, she could hardly tolerate not having him inside her. Dodger is so fucking hot when he's confident and domineering like that, especially in that suit that made her want to fall to her knees instinctively.

After that, she had to clean herself up and change into her evening dress, classy and beautiful, and get herself ready for a party. Weeks of practice with hair and makeup tutorials paid off, and now she looks gorgeous, if she does say so herself. The only drawback is clip-on earrings, which are distinctly uncomfortable, but Dodger had insisted on jewelry for proper femininity.

In the elevator, she turns to Dodger (proud of herself for not teetering in her high heels) and puts her hands - manicured and delicate - over his to stop him.

"You look great," she assures him. "Your hair is perfect. Here, let me fix your tie so you can stop messing with it."

In lieu of a kiss that might smudge her lipstick, Garrett leans in and boops their noses together gently while she fixes the man's tie.

He lets out a little huff, but the small touches do manage to calm him down a little. He still pushes up his sleeve, just enough that he can rub at the bandage across his wrist. Hey look, he's trying not to scratch.

"I hate these trips." He mutters. "If it was up to me I wouldn't deal in anything above the table but half these fuckers want Augustine dead."

He's about to say more, but the elevator stops and he pushes her away gently. Waiting for them is a bald man, slightly taller than Dodger but significantly heavier as well. Compared to Dodger he's much more comfortable in a suit that's much better tailored, black with thin pinstripes. He smells like cigar smoke.

As soon as they make eye contact Dodger slumps a bit, and Augustine cocks his head with the trace of a sneer. "Chin up, kid. Gotta make some good impressions."

There's a moment of tension, before Dodger steps out of the elevator and Augustine claps a hand on his back. He flinches, but otherwise doesn't react to it.

"We got a few minutes before we meet with our /business associates/. So we can talk - who's your friend."

"Ah, yeah-" Dodger turns back, motioning for Garrett to follow. "This is Marian. My new doll I mentioned."

"She's tall." Augustine sizes her up critically, and holds a hand out. "Victor Augustine. Owner and CEO of the Atlas Corporation - sure he's told you all about it."

Garrett waits for Dodger to move before stepping off the elevator with him, feeling very self-conscious of her mannerisms as she does. Dodger is always criticizing the way she moves or holds herself, and she sincerely hopes it's convincingly feminine now. She's taking in every detail: the expensive nature of his suit and the man's body. Clothing and life might look different here, but it's always easy to see the bearing and build of a rich man. Softer men who have bodyguards to be strong for them. The obvious tension thrumming through Dodger's entire body has her attention as well - and the way he flinches at a touch.

A weird little shiver runs through her at being called a doll. She can't entirely figure out what kind of reaction it is, but it's... something. Garrett holds a hand out to take Augustine's, reminding herself to grip gently, the way Dodger's Arm Candy would.

"Of course," she says with a smile that oozes all the charm that made her Champion. "The way he talks about you, I expected you to be eight feet tall."

"Only the world's finest ass-kisser." He sneers, motioning as if to kiss her hand but not quite making contact. His attention moves back to Dodger. "Kid, how many times do I have to tell you to fix your hair?"

Dodger bares his teeth a bit, which earns a laugh from Augustine. "Lighten up. Here, I'll show you to the meeting room - we got an open bar to enjoy before these chucklefucks show up."

Dodger almost reaches for his hair again, before reconsidering and just awkwardly rubbing his scars. Augustine turns to leave, and Dodger falls in step to follow close behind him. One arm stays around Garrett's waist, giving her a light squeeze for courage.

That reply throws her for something of a loop. She hadn't expected a compliment to Augustine to backfire into an insult at Dodger. Garrett casts about mentally for a second, but lets the moment pass- it seems there's no way at the moment to try and navigate her way out of little missteps like that. For all she knows, maybe Dodger likes their dynamic like this. For now, she just has to watch and see what's going on so she can fit into it smoothly.

"Don't listen to him, babe," she whispers lightly as they walk, making a valiant effort at normal modern slang. "I love your hair like this. It's cute."

Dodger answers her with a small wrinkling of his nose, one of his very subtle motions of feigning annoyance at something flattering. Unfortunately for him, his skin is too pale to hide the flash of embarrassment.

"Yeah, I know. He's just jealous." There's a growl in his voice - his voice is deeper, back in the act of pretending he's bigger and badder than he is. Even if he flinches again when Augustine shoots him a look.

Augustine leads them to a large room that seems more like a dining room than a meeting room. The hotel is rather high class, and has a few rooms like this that are dedicated to important, influential persons. And of course, there is a fully stocked bar in the corner that Augustine taps before finding a seat. "Get me something to drink, kid."

Dodger grunts his acknowledgement, and goes about pouring out whiskey for the three of them. While he's at it he glances at Garrett and nods his head toward Augustine. "Go on - make a friend, he doesn't bite."

"Sure, he does it for me."

"He's good at that," she says without thinking, managing with a smirk to make the remark ambiguous as to joke or innuendo. Garrett (or Marian, as she has to remind herself) makes her way over to the table, but slowly. There's etiquette here, she's sure of it, and is equally unsure of where she should fall.

"So, Mr. Augustine," she begins while hovering uncertainly near the chairs. "How long have you been in business?"

"Please - call me Victor." He motions for her to sit beside him, but not before moving it uncomfortably close to his own. "I've been running Atlas for... what is it, 15 years now? The two of you were probably still sucking your thumbs when I took over."

"Great mental image." Dodger places a whiskey in front of him and presses another into Garrett's hand, before pulling a chair back so he can sit by the wall. Since there's no one around yet, he tips it back so he can sit entirely incorrectly.

"I've had this kid working for me for a year and a half. Don't let him fool you, he's got no mind of his own. Makes him perfect for this sorta work."

Dodger grunts in answer to that, but masks whatever comment he had by drinking his own whiskey.

"Marian" sits down next to Augustine, making no comment on how close they are, or how inappropriate it is for Augustine to be so openly flirting with Dodger's date. He's the boss, so when she feels their thighs touching, she just crosses her legs and takes a sip from her whiskey.

"Sucking my thumb? Really?" She looks entertained and light-heartedly insulted. "Is that what you were doing in your teens, Victor? For all you know, I might have already killed a man by then."

"Is that so?" He leans a bit closer, wrinkling his nose with amusement while he sips his whiskey.

"He knows I started killing around twelve." Dodger comments. It's definitely uncomfortable to watch Augustine flirt with his date - his boyfriend, or girlfriend, or whatever - but that's half of why Garrett is here. The other half is to keep Dodger from going completely off the rails while he's stuck here.

Augustine's hand finds its way onto her thigh. His skin is surprisingly rough.

"Have you handled a gun before, Marian?"

Garrett doesn't really know what to do. She glances over her shoulder briefly while Augustine's whisky is at his lips, but can't actually make eye contact with Dodger without making it painfully obvious. The last thing she wants is to give this son of a bitch more reason to beat the shit out of her boyfriend.

"Yes," she says slowly. "Not as often as I'd like, but I don't really... need one."

Her fingers leave little patterns of frost behind on her glass, like the delicate etchings of late spring on a window.

Augustine's gaze slides over to her glass, and he scoffs softly. "Of course."

"Mutants attract mutants."

"Well, Atlas deals in arms production. If you need more time with a gun... I can make that happen."

That hand squeezes her thigh softly. Dodger seems to be pointedly not making eye contact with Garrett.

"I'll keep that in mind."

Garrett somehow manages to not freeze up despite her discomfort. She's kind of proud of that.

"Anyway, Victor, don't be so quick to discount mutants," she continues, moving on from the gun thing. "We can be a lot of fun."

"Oh, don't get me wrong. Half the dumb fucks I deal with are against them - that's exactly how you lose profits and put a target on your back, just for your own pride." He cocks his head, "Anyway, no one said I was human."

Dodger is, by this time, just avoiding eye contact entirely and keeping silent.

Oh right. Shit. The thing with cancelling powers. Garrett has to wonder how her Templar abilities would measure up against Augustine's ambiguously mutant ones.

"That's so true," she agrees, giving a ditzy little giggle the way some of the sillier girls she's met might do. "Forgive my assumptions, you know what they say about those. I've just never met a mutant who's so successful before."

"They're rare, sure. Soon as someone notices the mutation, you're blocked off everything. That's something Atlas is publicly against - we shouldn't be stuck selling weapons to anti-mutant bigots and watching the mutants steal 'em to defend themselves. It's a shitshow out there."

"I lost about fifteen jobs when I was a kid, from showing my powers." Dodger pipes up, "Probably'd still be on the streets if Augustine hadn't picked me up."

"I hire people that need the chance. I like to think I've got a knack for seeing diamonds in the rough." His gaze is scanning over Garrett - not just her body, but her face as well.

She has to hand it to him, Augustine is pretty damn charismatic. It's easy to see how a young, traumatized, homeless Dodger would have been taken in by this. Garrett might even have been taken in by it, once upon a time- she's always had a thing for shitheads with a good story.

More compelling, however, is the realization that Augustine is trying to recruit her. A little flutter of panic flares in her ample chest as she covers the moment with a silly little smile and a sip of her whiskey. The best thing she can do is to be... well, less interesting. Less of a good target for business. Unfortunately, that means leaning more into the flirty side of things.

"Victor, you're so smart," she enthuses, eyes bright and convincingly sparkly. "I don't follow all that politics stuff, but I do have lots of talents. So... I guess I'm a diamond, yeah?"

"You just might be. I might have to spend a little more time with you, get to know you a little better."

Augustine's hand is moving uncomfortably far up her leg when the door finally opens and more men step in. Some obviously rich business men, some just as tough and uncomfortable in their suits as Dodger. Augustine's hand immediately moves to brush Garrett's cheek playfully before he lets her go.

Dodger sits his chair up properly, and gets up to whisper in Garrett's ear. "This shit's a little over your head, you might wanna step out. I'll find you when it's over, we'll get something to eat afterward. Okay?"

Garrett is saved from having to answer that most aggressive of come-ons by the arrival of some men in suits. She gives Augustine a playful smile in answer to his touch, hiding her relief at Dodger finally telling her she can go. With a See you later, Victor," and a quick reassuring squeeze of Dodger's hand, she steps out.

Unsure of how far she should wander, Garrett ends up in the hotel bar, nursing her second drink (somehow even stronger than the first) and watching TV. She still can't follow baseball, really, so she's subtly looking up rules while watching, until another patron sees her phone and gallantly mansplains that Brits like her need an explanation from a real American. Gun to her head, she couldn't say how long she's been sitting there when Dodger finally comes to find her.

It takes a good long while for Dodger to return, but he eventually gets out and tracks Garrett down. And of course he finds her at the bar, trapped by some dumb fuckhead. Dodger has been avoiding teleportation around humans, so he walks up and grips the man's shoulder. His eyes are on Garrett.

"There you are. Been looking all over for you."

It's a lie. Dodger is a little overwhelmed by the amount of people here, but he still has a strong enough sense of smell to track Garrett down. The man turns to argue, until he's faced with Dodger's scarred face and piercing gaze. It barely takes a second for him to back off, and Dodger slinks in to block him and guard his partner.

"Augustine gave me a second to pick you up. He wants to treat us to dinner, he'll probably want to feel you up again. If you want, I'll tell him you blacked out and we can sneak off to eat dinner by ourselves. It's up to you."

It's crass and thuggish, but Garrett can't help laughing at the way the man backs away from Dodger like a scared dog. She leans in and brushes her lips very lightly to Dodger's cheek - the way she'd practiced, to avoid lipstick stains - by way of greeting.

"You know, if you gave him another hour, he probably would have gotten around to explaining what an out is." It's pure amusement. Her fingers go to his hair, ruffling it lightly in her search for affection that won't mess with her makeup. "Won't Augustine find out if you lie to him? I don't want you getting in trouble."

Dodger gives her a roguish grin, and answers her kiss with another on her forehead and a hand playing with her hair. It's not just that he feels more comfortable passing as straight, there's a certain level of power that comes from wearing a suit and having a beautiful woman hanging off of him. And he's lapping it up.

"What he doesn't know can't hurt him. I'll deal with it if it comes up." A pause. "Anyway, I'm pretty sure I pissed off one of the other bodyguards. Chances are I'm already booked for a fight tonight."

Garrett leans into his hand, her eyes meeting his longingly. As much as she would rather spend the evening with him, something nags at her...

"I don't want to see you beaten to a pulp by that bastard again," she murmurs. "Why don't we stay here an extra night and take tomorrow for ourselves?"

He could argue, but there's really no reason to. He knows how much Garrett hates his magnetic attraction to pain - Dodger himself doesn't care how many times he gets hurt, but he knows other people do. And damned if it hasn't started finally getting through to him.

"Alright. Deal." He captures her lips softly, careful not to smudge her makeup, and pulls his phone out to text Augustine. While he does he glances back at Garrett with a bit of anxiety creeping into his tone. "So... what's your impression of him?"
