[Garrett remembers a few things- that Dodger was a killer for hire, that he did brutal, terrible things, that he lived and breathed for his boss. That Dodger's attachment to his boss verged well into the unhealthy. He finds himself doubting the nobility of the man's work, but keeps that opinion to himself.]

There are probably better ways to cause change, you know.

[Activism, underground resistance, petitioning those in charge. Manifestos. His expression clouds for a moment with memories.]

[He just wants to get that point in before the topic changes, but fine, he'll relent. He leans back a bit, now that he's feeling a little better.]

[Here he is acting like he doesn't care about jewelry. Garrett's definitely seen his small collection of rings, necklaces and earrings.]

[Expectantly. When no answer is forthcoming, Garrett flicks Dodger lightly on the ear, taking advantage of their close contact to get him.]

[Dodger utters a little 'ow' and reaches up to smack Garrett's shoulder lightly in return.]

I can go out anyway. [His tail flicks.] ...It's nice. But I don't really need it. It's more important for you to use yours.

I know. [He slips the ring off, tucking it into his pocket with a relieved sigh when his horns sprout from his head once more.] That's better.

[Garrett brings a hand to Dodger's face, stroking Dodger's lip with his thumb for a moment before pushing it up just enough to reveal those pointed teeth.]

It's still good to have. And it goes with your collection.

[Dodger stills a little when Garrett touches him, and a shiver runs through him when his lip is pushed up. He just takes it for a moment before tipping his head, opening his mouth and letting his teeth close gently around Garrett's thumb. Just for a moment, before he lets go.]

I'm sure I'll find a use for it.

[There's that look again. Calculating, scanning Garrett's face for any sort of clue as to the other man's intentions.]

[Garrett gives a tiny shiver of his own when Dodger does that thing with his mouth, feeling a kind of warmth bloom between them. He'd want to lean in and kiss him, but holding off seems the sensible choice. There's so much to talk about, or to say, or to... not say. His head is starting to feel a bit odd from drinking, demanding either water or more whiskey to cure it.]

Let's go to the couch. It'd be nice to just...

[Cuddle. Feel someone's arms around him. Hold someone in his own. Soothe the wounded part of his soul that has been aching for touch and care, that still longs for Caitlin- and maybe, still, for Barry.]

[Dodger opens his mouth to say something. What, exactly, he isn't sure. The air is charged with something that he almost wants to bring attention to - he wants to be kissed, he wants more of those soft touches and whatever Garrett's doing to make his chest tighten up.]

Yeah. Sure.

[And yet he doesn't move, waiting for Garrett to break away first.]

[It isn't so much a break as a gentle pull, stepping back without letting go of Dodger so his grip becomes hands on the man's shoulder and hip, tugging him along gently. His hands drag down Dodger's arms until their hands are clasped and fingers laced together, but all the while keeping that contact that has them both so entranced.

They end up at the couch somehow, sinking down and pulling Dodger with him so they're caught up together, legs tangled and breath coming in tandem. This close, Garrett feels safe to voice a vulnerable question.]

Is there anything I can do to make staying here... easier for you?

[Dodger couldn't say how they end up there, tangled in a heap with him draped over Garrett's body. Something about it reminds him of being younger, happier. The question manages to catch him completely be surprise.]

I'm not used to sharing space.

[He settles a bit, slowly coming to terms with having an honest discussion.]

Francis and I figured shit out, but he... he could also phase through the wall. He was into bombs. It just... worked. I couldn't keep that kid out if I tried. Making this work is just gonna take longer for me.

It's not the bombs. It's being trapped.

[A long-distant memory claws at his insides, visions of an infinite white space closing in around him until his throat feels like it's closing. His arms tighten around Dodger in a kind of spasming motion, a quick little reflexive thing like a tiny punch in the chest.]

I never told you about my time in solitary, did I?

[Dodger's body warms a bit, almost in response to Garrett's twitch. He hesitates, but... Garrett knows plenty about Dodger's life, he guesses he should return the favor.]

Don't think so, no.

[A pause.]

You don't have to, if you don't want to. I think I can imagine.

Yeah, good. Talking about it too much just brings back the memories.

[He's pretty good at keeping it away, especially after so many years, but he still gets nightmares sometimes.]

I just need a way to go outside. And for the dogs- I was thinking of trying to. [Fuck fuck fuck.] Um. Find... homes. For. Some of them.

[Dodger reaches up to run his fingers through Garrett's hair, gently clearing it from his face and then caressing his cheeks.]

It's a lot of dogs.

[It feels a little like being watched by a crowd. Although at the moment, the world only consists of him and Garrett.]

Couple people I know around here might want dogs. I can't vouch for how good they'd be as owners. But we really can't keep all of them here.

Can people use the Internet to find dog owners?

[His stomach still clenches at the thought. Fuck, he hates it. He absolutely fucking hates the idea.]

[Dodger leans down and presses a kiss to Garrett's lips, slow and soft.]

We don't have to talk about it right now.

[He keeps running his fingers through Garrett's hair, and affectionately preening his beard.]

I love you. We'll figure it out.

[ he accepts the kiss with a tiny sound, kissing back for the briefest second before it's gone. It feels nice. Dodger's touch and the fingers combing through his beard soothe some of the anxiety in his chest, even as the three words that follow stir it up again. ]

I hope so. It would be a lot easier, I think, if this could work somehow. At least for now, while I get to know the world a little bit. That's also why I want to be able to leave when I want to - so I can get out and get used to this place.

[It sticks in Dodger's mind, the way Garrett still won't return the vow. He knows why. But it sticks.]

I'll handle it. Just relax for now.

[He cups Garrett's face in his hands, making sure the man focuses on him, and brushes their lips together again.]

We're fine right now. Right?

[Dodger's hands on his face do little to ease his anxiety, not addressing the ever present whisper of I don't want to go out there alone. But those green eyes draw him in anyway, for a soft kiss and the question that follows.]

I suppose. [Anxiously.] I can't-

[Abruptly he leans in and catches Dodger's mouth again in a deceptively soft kiss that almost hides how needy he feels.]

[Far be it from him to deny Garrett a welcome distraction. Dodger answers the kiss with a bit of force, letting out a soft noise under his breath. From there his kisses soften, slowing down so he can savor the feeling of it.

Eventually he breaks away, and just rests his forehead against Garrett's. Enjoying the tenderness of the moment, as fragile as it feels.]

[That little noise captivates him, drawing Garrett in like a moth to a tender flame and making him melt into the slowness and softness of their embrace. Dodger's lips feel so good on his, his mouth so perfect, that he can't help but savor the slow stroke of their tongues together until a shiver chases all the way down his spine.

He doesn't want it to stop. It stops anyway, no matter his wish to continue, and he breathes in the sweet air they've created around them. In the gentle quietude, an unexpected honesty slips out.]

I don't want to leave.

[Dodger keeps his eyes closed, still basking in Garrett's embrace. It takes a bit for him to actually respond.]

I don't want you to leave.

[It's a hard truth to swallow. But he knows it's true, he just has to figure out how to make it work.]

[Garrett breathes out some tiny bit of tension, some part of his stress leaving his body at the tensely anticipated answer. He's wanted. Not resented, not hated, not tolerated, but wanted. As stupid and childish and vulnerable as it is, he recognizes how much he needed to know that.]

Okay.

[His hand comes up to pet Dodger's hair, fingers combing through brown strands as he basks in the warmth and closeness.]

...You know. [It's his "about to confess something messy or difficult" tone.] I can't tell how much of me was happy to see you. Versus how much of me was...

[Anxious. Scared. Filled with dread.]

I hate not being able to tell. I don't want to leave, but. Everything feels fucking complicated.

[Dodger lets out a soft sigh at the petting, snuggling in closer against Garrett while the man speaks.

He knows exactly why things would be so hard. Why Garrett wouldn't know whether to trust him. It's all his fault and he knows that. Still...]

I was scared when you showed up. [For once, some honesty on his end.] I was scared of having another person I could lose.

[His arms tighten around the other man, the man who feels so small in his arms despite all his bulk and strength.]

At least you got some people back.

[Garrett has lost everything. Again. It's all he can do to not succumb as the isolation and loss burrow deep into his soul.]
