"I'll need a few minutes," he fires back, "While you clean up the bedroom."

Because, yeah. There's a lot to deal with in there, and Garrett has things to deal with in here.

Dodger doesn't answer, but he figures Garrett has a point. He teleports out, and spends some time focusing on the bloodstains all over the floor. They're not the first and they won't be the last, and Dodger is well-versed in helping to clean up his own messes, so it doesn't take long to erase the evidence of their lapse in judgement.

By the time Garrett gets out of the bathroom, Dodger is still in the bedroom. Done cleaning, but staring at himself in the door mirror and fussing with his clothing. He opted for a well-worn band T-shirt and a pair of boxers with "suck it" across the front, but somehow he isn't satisfied with it. Unsatisfied, but unsure what would be better. Maybe it's just easier to focus on his clothing than his face.

His fingers are pressing into that spot again.

It takes Garrett a few minutes to come out again: after using blood as lube, he feels the need to be much more thorough even than his usual fastidiousness in getting clean. He doesn't emerge until he's completely satisfied. By the time he comes out, his hair is almost dry, too.

He frowns a little at the sight of Dodger, and crosses the room to stand behind his lover.

"Hands off," he chides gently, wrapping his arms around the shorter man. His own hands slide down to cover Dodger's, so he can carefully separate the man's favorite injury spot from potential claws. "Let's watch TV in bed. I want more room to cuddle."

Dodger submits immediately to Garrett's hold, relaxing into him as if it's the most natural thing he knows. He leans back into his lover, shifting to look at him when he speaks but not saying much himself.

"Yeah."

He breaks away from Garrett to crawl into bed, and searches around for the remote to the bedroom TV. It's rarely used, mostly because Dodger tends to only use his bedroom for work, sex or sleep. Half of the time he forgets he owns it.

"Here, you might like this one." He starts searching up some old movie from the 40s, a film noire that hits every stereotype right on the head. Nearly a hundred years old now, but he's always loved antique media.

While crossing the room to the bed, Garrett steps over something on the floor- a burnt length of red silk rope, still wet with blood. It sticks with him as he slides under the sheets, the bright red vivid in his mind against the white fabric. Strange, the little things that can get to him- but he tries to put it out of his mind. As Dodger said, it was a lot. It feels weird and too big to think about right now.

But he's a little more insistent about reaching for Dodger when the man joins him in bed. As they settle in for the movie, he's a little less settled about how he feels. It seems that as soon as they stop moving, as soon as other physical distractions fall away, Garrett's thoughts begin to circle on red- the rope, the blood. He remembers all the times he's used that kind of red rope, how beautiful it's always looked against pale skin. He remembers every time Barry stripped the bed and every time he put the sheets back on again after an especially powerful laundry cycle. He remembers red on white, and blood in his mouth.

Dodger likes to treat him that way. Lying here, cuddled up next to him with an arm around his shoulders, it thrums in his mind like drum-beats over and over that Dodger likes to treat him in ways nobody else would. And they wouldn't- they never would. But Dodger still says he loves him.

And now there are claws. He's here with someone who likes to hurt him, and Hell still has its hooks in them and may never let go, and he wonders - as the man on the screen downs another whiskey and laments his lost love - what else he might have to lose. (He's been shivering for a few minutes, but hasn't noticed.)

Garrett isn't alone in the depressed thoughts, at least. Dodger is comfortable to curl up beside him, but the worry doesn't leave him. He's never gone so far without killing someone, and he doesn't quite know how to handle it. He doesn't know what he should be doing, how to help Garrett cope.

The memory claws at him, of Garrett wandering to the bathroom after Dodger had used him. The fear he'd felt exploding through him when he realized Garrett was taking his own life. It feels like it was a lifetime ago and just yesterday at the same time.

He suddenly becomes aware of Garrett shaking, and he looks up at him silently with concern clear on his face. Dodger really is trying not to let his anxiety run rampant, but there's a part of him that always comes dangerously close to cracking when the all-mighty, invincible Garrett Hawke shows true weakness.

Somehow, a kiss feels too loaded to help. Instead Dodger shifts to hug him tightly, warming his body to try and make himself more comforting to hold.

Garrett starts slightly at the sudden hug and blinks down at Dodger, almost as if he's surprised to see him there. It dawns on him that he's shaking. Shivering. Maybe that's why Dodger's warming himself up- to be more comforting?

It feels like there's something in his throat. A voice echoes in his head, distant but clear as a cold spring day: you don't have to keep everything in, Garrett. Your shoulders are bigger than mine, but that doesn't mean you need to carry the world on them. You can share some of it with me.

"You know, traditionally..." Just say it. Just say it. This is drop, he knows it is, he knows it's not weak or pitiful to try and say what he wants. He knows, it's just... so hard. "During aftercare, the top is the big spoon."

Maybe it's teasing- or maybe he just wants to be held.

Dodger's brow twitches a bit, at the way that Garrett speaks. Something about it rubs him the wrong way, in a sense that he isn't used to - it's the compassion in him, that hates the way that Garrett walks on eggshells to avoid showing weakness.

"You can just ask." He mumbles.

There's a pause, and he sits up a bit so he can get a proper look at Garrett's face. He runs his fingers through that glamorous beard, and wonders if he should be kissing him after all.

"Hey. Where are you?"

Not in space, obviously. But in time. He can tell by the shaking that Garrett is drifting.

Garrett blinks at Dodger. It's a good question- one he doesn't know how to answer. He leans into the touch with a small frown, wishing he understood more about what's happening in his own head.

"I don't know. You're not the first person I've done that much biting with," he says thoughtfully. "Or even the first person to like it that much. You're... the second."

His head is somewhere very strange. Not a concrete place, not a single bright memory, but in a weird space he doesn't want to give voice to.

"I feel... very far away."

Dodger knows how he feels, or at least he thinks he does. It's a lot to handle, even being the one doing the blood-letting. As hot as it was in the moment, the afterglow feels fuzzy and a little numb.

"C'mere." He slides back down, shifting their positions until he's the one holding Garrett close. "You can turn around if you want. I just want you close."

He'll pet Garrett's hair while he's at it, and press in close so he can focus on the older man's scent. He needs comfort as much as Garrett does, but he'll handle himself later.

Dodger's embrace is surprising but very much welcome, and Garrett goes with it easily. It turns out that Garrett doesn't want to turn around- he, too, just wants to be close. He just wants to snuggle into Dodger's side and bury his face in that broad chest and, for this moment, feel safe.

Still working on that last part. At the very least, he feels... seen. Pressing his ear to Dodger's chest rewards him with the low, rhythmic beating of Dodger's heart- a normal, human heartbeat, that Garrett still isn't used to hearing.

It moves him to speak. He doesn't turn his head to look up at Dodger- that's too vulnerable. It's easier to talk with his cheek nestled against lightly haired skin, eyes fixed somewhere on the opposite wall.

"You like treating me the way nobody else ever would," he starts hesitantly, trying to give voice to the weird, hurt feelings roiling inside him. "And it's true. They wouldn't. They would never treat me that way. But you... it's just strange. Hearing you say that you... hearing you talk about your feelings while doing that."

"I said once that you liked that about me. That's why I said it. It was just sex talk."

He wants to kiss Garrett, but even Dodger knows that it would be too vulnerable. At best it would make them crumble, and distract themselves with more physical affection just to avoid talking. It wouldn't help anything.

"I like going over the edge. But I just... I needed you to know I wasn't trying to torture you. I just... I don't know. I wanted to feel something."

It seems like every day it gets harder and harder to feel connected to this reality. Garrett is the only thing that seems to properly tether him, even in those moments of insanity.

"I'm sorry."

Garrett thinks for a long moment, his face still nuzzled into Dodger's chest. "I don't think I need you to apologize," he says, choosing his words carefully. "We talked about my safeword, and I stand by not using it. The whole reason I have one is so I can be free to bitch and whine without worrying about the scene dying. I liked... feeling something, too."

He's had a similar conversation with Barry, too, when the man was experiencing dom drop. That day was vastly different, though. Garrett had been in a great mood that day, rather than this weird shaky uncertainty plaguing him now. The strange and profound sadness worming its way into his heart.

"You only ever say things like beautiful when I'm bleeding, or choking, or naked, or... submitting. What do you actually..."

He feigns a cough, feeling incredibly stupid and vulnerable.

That question cuts into Dodger, maybe more than Garrett intended. Everyone teases him about it, the way he only compliments anyone when his cock is in their mouth. He knows some of them really hate it. He knows it ruined things between him and Hector, far before Dodger's actions tore them apart.

He's quiet for a while, petting Garrett's hair and trying to come up with a response. Something in his chest feels tight, and maybe it's just from how deep he has to press to even open his mouth.

"It's just how I am." He murmurs finally. "It's easier to... um. It's easier to talk, when it's just talk. I mean, whatever I say during sex, it's... bullshit, it doesn't matter, half the people I fuck won't remember it afterward. So it just..."

This is a horrible explanation. Maybe he should just shut the fuck up and start over. He lets out a loud sigh.

"I... I think you're beautiful. I think you're- I love that you can just do whatever you want without caring what anyone else thinks. About helping people, about being a good person, just... all that passion, you feel like you're alive. I feel like I'm alive when I'm around you."

And he likes that Garrett fights back against him, but that seems like... less of a valid argument right now.

Some of the tension in Garrett's shoulders slowly unwinds at the hand petting his hair. Such a simple, intimate gesture makes him feel cared for in a way he hadn't expected to hit so hard. Garrett listens, gradually melting into Dodger's embrace all the while the man talks.

And what things he says. Sensitive, passionate- real.

"Why, Dodger, that actually sounds like-" Garrett buries his face in Dodger's chest to hide how hot his face feels all of a sudden, feels strangely small, and forgets to resent it. "Respect."

That gets a wry laugh out of him - he's actually glad Garrett isn't looking at him, so he doesn't see how red Dodger's face has turned. He just holds him a little tighter, and presses his lips to Garrett's hair for a few moments before answering.

"I've always been jealous of you. I think you knew that already. You're, uh... you're a lot better than me. In a lot of ways. I sorta just... want that light reflecting on me."

One of his hands slips down lower, to play with Garrett's beard. His favorite part of the older man's appearance, his favorite thing to touch.

"Your looks don't hurt either... wouldn't mind if you stopped dying your hair, though."

"Fuck off," he hisses good-naturedly, more blushing than annoyed. "I wish we hadn't done that truth serum."

Because that was obviously the worst thing to come of that conversation. Not the admission that he still cared about Dodger, or being forced to cop to how often he actually thought about the still-daunting contract and service idea.

This is all, of course, obviously not a cheap deflection away from the feelings that are far too sincere to know how to handle. A light shining from him? Maker, that's too beautiful for his tangled mind to deal with all at once.

The laugh that comes out of Dodger is much more genuine this time, light but gravelly with embarrassment.

"Didn't need the serum, I've found the dye boxes. And I can smell it on you."

There's a pause here, but... yeah, Dodger's been waiting as long as he can handle. He shifts a bit, trying to guide Garrett up so he can press a soft kiss to those perfect lips.

Garrett lets Dodger pull him up, going with the guidance easily to seek out a soft, wonderful kiss. It soothes something in his uncertain heart. It's reassurance that he isn't truly alone here- he hopes.

"Hey," he says casually after a slow minute of soft, shallow, almost chaste kissing. "I have this suspicion. Do you like me? As, you know, more than a friend?"

Yes, this is fishing. He's blatantly fishing to hear It.

Somehow, after everything, this is what gets Dodger to choke. He gives Garrett a look of bewilderment, that shows up before he train himself back into the mild annoyance that seems to characterize Dodger's face.

"I... yeah. Of course I do, what the f..."

His gaze darts for a second, like he's looking around for assistance. All he gets is Crusher's head propped on the bed, silently asking for permission to come up. Not helping.

"...Are you fucking with me?"

Garrett maintains a straight face, looking almost adorably sincere. It's kind of difficult, in the face of Dodger's hilarious reaction, but he perseveres.

"I don't know what you mean." So innocent. "I would never, ever fuck with you."

Dodger's brow twitches, and he smacks Garrett's forehead lightly before following it with a kiss.

"You first." He teases back, tugging lightly on Garrett's beard in lieu of pinching his cheek. "Do you love me?"

Garrett wrinkles his nose and nips at Dodger's finger lightly with his teeth, catching it gently in fangs that poke out adorably.

"Yeah," he says, muffled at first before letting go to speak more clearly. "I love you."

Dodger's face is burning red, and a dumb grin spreads across his face. He knows it, he's heard it already, but in this gentle and vulnerable moment it feels so much stronger.

"I love you too." He murmurs, before leaning down for another soft, chaste kiss.

It's incredible, really, that after all the softness and feelings they've shared, those four simple words strike at something deep and deeply wounded in Garrett's fragile heart. On an abstract level he knows that it's the drop, not necessarily a true representation of his normal feelings, but it doesn't change how much it hurts to hear those words from someone so pretty with such soft brown hair and such big green eyes.

When they break away from the kiss, Garrett's eyes are prickling and hot, visibly wet, and his stomach is roiling with a weird, lonely kind of pain.

"I'm sorry," he says miserably, turning his face away in embarrassment. "I've never had sub drop this bad before. I just keep thinking about..."
