Garrett picks up another piece of bacon - making sure that Blue sees - and tosses it over to Dodger. Predictably, she follows and sits in front of Dodger, looking adorable with big blue eyes.

"How about we take care of the other three first and see what a difference it makes." He gives Dodger a look just as wide-eyed and entreating as Blue's. "Please?"

Dodger sets his jaw and makes a small sound of annoyance, but he eats half of the strip and hands the rest over to Blue.

"Fine. We'll see."

Blue takes the bacon with extreme gentleness and the utmost decorum, licking her chops after and gently headbutting his thigh for attention. A little smile creeps over Garrett's face at the exchange, especially when Dodger feeds Blue.

"How are people supposed to get jobs around here?" A frown creases his forehead. "Doesn't it involve college or something?"

Dodger shrugs noncommittally, idly scritching Blue's ears while he speaks.

"Wouldn't know, I bounced from job to job when I was a teenager but I usually lasted a day or two. Got my first real job as a favor from the boss. I've been working for Augustine since I got out of the Children of Saturn."

It all sounds so mundane, when he puts it like that.

"Whatever you do, just don't let them know you're not human anymore. No magic, no fancy teeth. They can fire you just for making the customers uncomfortable."

Garrett nods thoughtfully while taking another bite of egg and veggies. Back to the shadows, but in the mage's role this time. It's strange to think about.

"It's weird for something that common to be that hated," he muses. "Anyway, I'll start looking for a job and dog homes soon. Let's take the morons out. Can you show me how the door works?"

Dodger hesitates a bit before leading Garrett over to the door. It looks entirely normal now, although the knob is brand new. It's a hexagon rather than a smooth circle, too.

"When you turn it, make sure your thumb is pressed into one of the faces. Doesn't matter which. If it can't recognize the thumbprint as mine or yours, it won't open. And it'll send an alert to my phone."

As an example he tries to open it without his fingertips touching the knob, and wiggles it roughly. A moment later his phone buzzes loudly from the bedroom.

Garrett looks on with interest and reaches out to try it for himself.

"Will it tell you when I use the door properly?"

He doesn't necessarily love the idea of his comings and going's all being monitored.

Dodger's phone buzzes again, more quietly. He cocks his head, almost as if he's scrutinizing the way the door opens. The hinges are a bit squeaky after not being used for a year.

"I like knowing when it gets opened. Helps me sleep at night."

Garrett gives Dodger a slight look but soon shrugs. It's not his favorite idea in the world, but on the whole it really isn't that bad.

"You hardly sleep anyway," he teases before turning around to face his ??boyfriend?? with a slight smile. "Thanks for finding a way. I promise to keep you safe with my strong, manly muscles."

Dodger knits his brow, trying not to think very hard about the obvious question there - who's going to protect him from Garrett if something happens?

But he leans up, and presses a kiss to the older man's lips before moving past him to grab the dogs' leashes. Crusher and Stella immediately crowd around him, and Dodger has to shove Crusher away by his chest to stop him from jumping.

The morning passes with little incident: there's the usual morning run (which, as usual, ends with Max in someone's arms and Angel still raring to go) followed by Garrett doing an exercise routine, such as he can, at home. There's some talk about gym memberships and pull-up bars, and Garrett sends a text to Coyote from the toilet about how to get a decent job that isn't totally brainless.

After his shower, Garrett convinces Dodger to stay home for the week. He must have expected you to be out of work for a while, with a beating like that. There's no need to tell the abusive boss what's happening, after all. Why don't they try to have some fun and get used to living together?

Dodger had dug his heels in a bit about lying to Augustine, but there's no denying that he wants to stay home. His feelings about his job are becoming more and more complicated, and ironically it seems easier to stay home and just focus on Garrett. On whatever the fuck is growing between them.

By lunchtime, though, he's already restless and stir crazy. He paces around for a little bit, then puts on the news but just ends up texting instead of paying attention. Then the texts agitate him, and he casts around for something else to do before settling on Garrett.

Garrett looks up from the sandwiches he's making, lips still wrapped around a beer bottle, and raises an eyebrow questioningly.

Garrett slowly pushes the beer bottle and cutting board away so the counter in front of them is clear. If this escalates any more, he suspects they'll need the free space.
