[Dodger's own hands crackle with wisps of flames as he stops short and rounds on Garrett. The dogs are pulled along with it, and all turn to him with looks of confusion.]

Can you shut up for a second? I'm helping walk your dogs because you got hit by a car after you cropped up in my world. My apartment has one bedroom, and there are seven dogs and two humans in it. I don't want you or them to stay there, and if you're not staying there then you don't have to worry about the fucking door. Do you understand yet?

[Dodger stays bristled, and talks as if he's speaking to a child. They've already had this argument, why does this have to be so difficult?]

[Garrett holds Dodger's gaze for a long, tense moment as he considers his position. He's homeless, penniless, and friendless in a harsh and unwelcoming world. His existence right now depends on Dodger, who is working to get him the papers he needs to survive in the world. As important as freedom is to him, he... really isn't in a position to push it.

He exhales, not showing how internally deflated he feels.]

[He starts walking again.]

[It takes a moment for Dodger's hackles to settle back down, but he lags slightly behind Garrett so he can stew in his frustration. This is exactly why he hates living with other people.

But he's not re-engaging, so they walk in relative silence. Aside from Dodger yanking Crusher's chain every so often when the dog finds something particularly interesting and doesn't want to walk anymore. Crusher is also making a point to pee on every single vertical object they pass, which is slowly driving Dodger insane.]

Once we're back at the apartment, I'll work on pulling some more strings. [It's grumbled, like a child being forced to apologize.] I hope you realize how much I'm sticking my neck out for you.

[Dodger grumbles something to himself, too quiet to hear. His phone beeps, and he pulls it out to check it.]

Once I've got all your paperwork sorted out, I'll get you a credit card. You can use that instead of money and I'll handle the bill.

[A pause.]

We don't need groceries. What, are you gonna be cooking?

[There is literally no food in Dodger's apartment. The fridge had a single box of old chinese food and some beer in it, and otherwise there is no food stored anywhere aside from Crusher's low-grade kibble.]

[He cocks an eyebrow at Dodger, speaking slowly as if to a child.]

It depends on what's at the store. [ he offers a self-deprecating smile ] If nothing looks especially great, Fereldans are always good at stews.
